Looking for the best ingredients for black skin care? Why ingredients? They will determine how your product performs. Say your challenge is dry skin. You’ll want a moisturizer or serum that has an ingredient that attracts moisture and deeply penetrates into your skin. Therefore, you'd want to see hyaluronic acid as one of the top five ingredients. Speaking of top five ... the top five ingredients are the ones found in the highest percentage in your products. So they form the base and all other ingredients play a supporting role. When you see an essential oil listed and it's not in the top five, it's okay. Essential oils are volatile, yet potent and you don't need a lot of them in a formulation to get results.

So, What Do You Look For and What Do You Avoid in Ingredients?

To answer this question you must know your skin, intimately. In general, we are lovers of oils. They glide on smoothly making our skin feel soft as a baby's bottom. For natural UV protection, avocado, coconut, meadow foam, sesame or Shea butter should be on your list. There was a time when oils were the go-to product for cleansing, especially your face. However, other inhabitants of the earth didn't understand hygiene in general. So, as they learned to clean themselves up, soap and water became their method of doing so. This very practice is one of the reason's there are so many skin challenges. The ingredients used to make soap can be extremely drying to your skin. It will literally strip the natural oils from your it. You feel squeaky clean after your hot soap and water bath or shower, yet your skin can often will feel tight and dry. Your go-to product … an oil or butter based solution to relieve the dryness.

What moisturizing ingredients to look for in black skin care?

Hyaluronic acid is one of the many ingredients to look for in black skin care products. It's often found in serums and moisturizers. It's a natural substance that already exist in your body. It's a substance that your body uses to keep your skin and connective tissues lubricated, strong and healthy. You'll often find hyaluronic acid in products that are geared to dry, mature or dehydrated skin.

Looking for Great Ingredients in Cleansers?

Green tea should definitely be on the list for the best black skin care cleansers. It's known to fight premature aging. Is said to reduce redness and irritation and it's great for acne challenged skin. Did I mention that it will help in moisturizing your skin? When used as an extract in a cream based cleanser, it's very effective in removing dirt and debris from your skin without stripping it of its natural oil.

What do you avoid ?

Avoid ingredients like alcohol (especially in the first five positions), synthetic fragrances, petroleum (some of you will have a problem with this one), hydroquinone, coal tar, formaldehyde and heavy metals. Can't leave without mentioning nutrition …

The health and beauty of your skin begins with what you eat. Your body has a way of talking to you and telling what's working and not working form within. You can have all the right ingredients in your skin care products. However, if you don't eat to maintain the health of your organs, blood, bones, arteries … you get the picture, no product you use is going to give you the skin you desire long term. That being said , eat your green foods, drink half your body's weight in water, cut way back on the sugar, bread and starches in general. Start here, and your skin will thank you for it.
